A new water pumping station and holding reservoir needed to be up and running quickly to service an industrial park area that was experiencing tremendous growth. The timeline was considered by many to be impossible and there was a penalty clause for construction delays. The footprint of the building was 36,000 square feet, including the pumping station, clarifier tanks and a holding reservoir for containment which was 24 feet below-grade. As much of the concrete as possible needed to be placed and waterproofed before winter arrived.
The waterproofing material originally specified would have required a minimum wait of 14 days to allow the concrete to cure before application. To waterproof the complete envelope of the working pumping station including the split slab, the outside walls of the concrete tank and the roof, nearly 85,000 square feet of waterproofing membrane needed to be applied. The general contractor needed to find a way to "fast track" the job.
London Caulking and Installations had already completed two jobs with TREMproof 250GC fluid-applied elastomeric waterproofing membrane and knew that it enabled construction schedules to be dramatically reduced. Instead of having to wait for poured concrete to fully cure before application of the waterproofing, TREMproof 250GC could be applied to “green”, or damp concrete. It cures in four hours while allowing the concrete to cure to a higher quality material. In addition, no primer is necessary, thus eliminating a labor step.
Within 24 hours after the concrete mud slab was placed, the waterproofing was applied. TREMproof 250GC is now in the Master Spec for water treatment and sewage treatment facilities.
